Program Overview

Current Outdoor Learning Offerings (K–5)

Grade Level 

Activities and Experiences

Kindergarten and 1st Grade 

Learn to Bike Program in PE with 24 Convertible Strider Bikes and one adult bike.
1st Grade Outdoor learning activities throughout the year; swimming in winter.
2nd Grade Partnership with Eureka Math & Science Center — Mica Mines hike and CSU Research Center visit.
3rd Grade CSU Research Farm visit, climbing at Grip Bouldering, and snowshoeing/winter ecology on the Grand Mesa.
4th Grade Archery in PE, bird banding at Audubon Nature Preserve, and snowshoeing on the Grand Mesa.
5th Grade Archery in PE, fishing lessons and trip to James M. Robb State Park, attendance at Colorado Children’s Water Festival. Students have qualified for National Archery Competition annually.

Schoolwide & Future Opportunities

  • Run Club launching in January (2026) — open to all grade levels.
    • Students will participate in the Elevate Run (5K or 10K) in April, benefiting local non-profits and D51 PE programs.
  • Expansion Goals:

Curriculum Alignment

  • All Outdoor Learning Activities are directly connected to grade-level curriculum standards (K–5).
  • Integrates physical education, science, and environmental literacy.
